The Results:

In perhaps the closest Beat Challenge in HISTORY, only a single point separated this from a 3 way tie! So dope!

Timothy Delirious – Entry# 1 – 13 pts

Norm DePlume – Entry# 3 – 13 pts

Norm DePlume – Entry# 2 – 14 pts!!!!!

Wow, almost a 3-way tie! Crazy! I really dug this round’s tracks. The bar has been lifted! I feel like we both tried to do some really cool things this time, even experiment a little! Now, since I got to submit more than one track, I feel I got an unfair advantage. So as winner of this round, I would be honored to have runner up Timothy Delirious decide the next Source Material!
WOOT! WOOT! BC#4!!!

  1. #1 – This beat has left me shaken and worried about being pretty. I’m a huge fan of this one. Samples handled well, percussion is en pointe. Lots of treats here. It’s weird and vibey and pretty much something to listen to while I contemplate being near 40 and alone. 4.5 Valiums of five for this one.

#2 – This one’s the truth. This is giving me very Yung Marley vibes. I’m liking the trip hop island vibes here. And then it kinda goes tropical disco and then to straight dancehall?? production is swiff. Bruh, this shit right here is Barba-dope. 5 Buju Bantons out of 5.

#3 – This one sounds like it just got away with killing a white woman and fled to the Dominican Republic. I gotta give all the props for the Clegane chickenz sample in the middle. You a real one for that. A solid 4 out of 5 Tory Burch espadrilles for this one.

Y’all killed this round. Real talk. The game got ill.

    • “This one sounds like it just got away with killing a white woman and fled to the Dominican Republic.” Stop! I’m dead!

  2. Beat #1: This is a chill rendition of a blue drink I once had while mac’in to some dolphins in the tropics. 3.5 sea mammal squeaks out of 5.

Beat #2: Somebody done wil’t the fuck out. I think I have touched cyberpunk, and -no surprise- I was surprised the whole time. 5 future ethnicities out of 5.

Beat #3: First one to take the cheery sample material and make things sound dangerous. Basically this excellent work could have been the beginning of a 45 min youtube mixtape that I’d have gladly listened to all the way through. What a tease! What a hot hot tease. 4.5 choppy thumbnail preview loops out of 5.

    • “This is a chill rendition of a blue drink I once had…”

I swear the comments are almost more fun than the beats!

  3. Entry #1 – I really dig this one. Groovy as hell. Has an Avalanches vibe. The changes in drum patterns, vocal samples, and time shifting keep it evolving. Every bar feels slightly different than the last but it still holds together nicely. Usually I imagine who would rap on tracks, but this one takes its own journey. Fresh down to the outro. Ambiance.

    I vote 5 shaking hula girls…

Entry #2 – Irie Vibes. Ragga Music, a first for this contest. I like the buildups. Nice rhythm layering. I too appreciate the mixing. Points for working in vocals.

    I give it 4.5 struggle dreads…

Entry #3 – It’s got a gritty thing going. Maybe the distortion on the piano sample is a bit distracting. But I like the change ups. A skit about chicken. Why not? I really dig the second half of this one. It’s a more straight forward beat, but sometimes that’s fine too. The Biggie verse is a nice touch.

I give it, the 4 sketchy flights of stairs its takes at 5pts to get down to the Biggie Mural…

  4. oh sheeeet! we got a 3rd one in the mix. ok ill be the first to vote.

Entry #1 – Hot Sidewalk (Shake You Girls)
hot shit, A#1 melodies. the bpm change up is cool, keeps it interesting. I especially appreciate the drawn out ending.
I’d give it 3 sidewalk potholes and 1 half electrified ConEd manholes = 3.5

    Entry #2 – Veritas
oooo satisfying beat, very nice. great drums. the mix sounds fucking great too, nice and clear! ha, wheres this reggaeton sample coming from?! veering towards “pon de floor.” well this was fun.
3.5 stars plus another .5 for the mixing skills = 4 stars

    Entry #3 – tropicanaOJsimpsons
sounds like old school hippy hops, which I like veddy much. whatever happened to simple piano riffs and good beats? the change up is good, an interesting turn. @1:45, nice work! i like how you avoided being too repetitive with the melody sampling, but kept it groovy and inline with the rest of the track. ha nice sample of the hound. i knew id heard it but couldn’t place it…
    4.5 zombie dragons.

we should start putting up bpm too. just out of curiosity…..
